Rendering of the AIM-260 JATM @NAVAIR/JanesAustralia will become the first country outside the U.S. to operate the AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM) after the Albanese Government announced plans to acquire the long-range air-to-air weapon for the Royal Australian Air Force. The AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM) is a next-generation, beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile developed by Lockheed Martin for U.S. forces. The U.S. State Department cleared Australia in March for a potential sale of AIM-260 missiles, test articles and associated equipment. The government has committed up to A$36 billion over the next decade to guided weapons and explosive ordnance. Separately, Australia announced the successful flight test of an indigenously developed solid-fuel rocket motor designed for future guided weapons applications.
