Image Credit: Corvus EnergyCanadian ferry operator BC Ferries has awarded Corvus Energy a contract to supply battery energy storage systems for four new hybrid-electric ferries. Corvus will also provide battery interface and control systems that can support a further 60 MWh on each vessel as shore charging infrastructure becomes available. The batteries will allow the ferries to operate on electric power for up to two hours. The vessels will initially use diesel-battery hybrid propulsion and will also be able to run on biofuel or renewable diesel.
