Image Credit: AllseasEngineering firm ABB will supply the power and propulsion package for offshore contractor Allseas’ new heavy transport vessel Grand Tour, which will support the offshore wind industry in Europe. Grand Tour will transport large offshore wind converter stations from fabricators in Asia and Europe to Allseas’ construction vessel Pioneering Spirit for installation. ABB will supply four 3.5 MW Azipod propulsion units, which can rotate 360 degrees to provide the manoeuvrability and station-keeping needed during the operation. The package also includes a medium-voltage power plant, power and energy management system and remote condition monitoring.
