Three local cities will recognize this Saturday, Aug. 8, as Cecile Hansen Day in honor of the longtime chairwoman of the Duwamish Tribe, according to information shared by the tribe. Tukwila, Seattle and Renton are honoring Hansen on her birthday for her service, spirit, perseverance and leadership, the Duwamish Tribe said. The Duwamish Tribe said its aboriginal territory includes Seattle, Tukwila, Burien, Renton and Redmond. City proclamations signed by the mayors of Tukwila, Seattle and Renton recognize Hansen’s contributions. Hansen is a relative of Chief Si’ahl, also known as Chief Seattle.
