Lockheed Martin and Albany Engineered Composites, a segment of Albany International Corp., have signed a teaming agreement aimed at accelerating the production of hypersonic weapons for the U.S. Department of War (DoW).
The companies said the partnership will combine Lockheed Martin’s systems-integration capabilities with Albany’s advanced composite manufacturing expertise as they pursue upcoming full-rate production opportunities for U.S. hypersonic weapons programs.
The partnership comes as the U.S. seeks to expand its ability to manufacture hypersonic weapons at scale.
Hypersonic systems are designed to travel at speeds above Mach 5 while offering greater maneuverability than conventional ballistic systems.
Albany Engineered Composites President Chris Stone said scaling hypersonic weapons will require not only advanced designs but also the ability to manufacture complex composite structures in high volumes.
