— The Purdue Board of Trustees and President Mitch Daniels formally welcomed and introduced Tommy McClelland as the university’s new vice president and director of Intercollegiate Athletics on Thursday (Aug. 6) at the Purdue Memorial Union. McClelland, 44, who joins Purdue with nearly 20 years of athletics director experience, comes from Rice University, where he held the role of vice president and director of athletics since 2023. “I am deeply honored and incredibly excited to join the Purdue University family,” McClelland said. “The future of Purdue Athletics is incredibly bright, and I am ready to get to work. Before Rice and Vanderbilt, McClelland spent 2013-20 as athletics director at Louisiana Tech.
