(CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on Monday, Aug. 10, released the name of a Madison Police Department officer who shot and killed a man on July 22, sparking multiple protests. Corey Ruiz was fatally shot at the intersection of Baldwin and Williamson Streets after a physical altercation with officers. Police say Ruiz brandished a knife and injured Madison Police Officer Kiel Baitinger-Peterson, who has 10 years of law enforcement service. Both injured officers were treated at a local hospital and have since been released. DCI is leading this investigation and is assisted by a DCI Crime Response Specialist, Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Sun Prairie Police Department.
