The gradual power increase of Unit 2 at the Paks nuclear power plant began on Monday at 6:00 p.m., the facility announced on its website. They recalled that Units 1, 3, and 4 had to be shut down due to the river’s low water level, while Unit 2 had been operating at fifty percent capacity for eleven days. Just as output was reduced step by step during the shutdown, increasing reactor output during the restart is also a multi-step process. Unit 2 is expected to reach its nominal output — approximately 500 megawatts (MW) — at 10:00 p.m. on Monday evening. According to the power plant’s website, by around 7:00 p.m. on Monday evening the plant’s output had already exceeded 300 megawatts.
