The Department of Education (DepEd) said on Tuesday that the number of damaged classrooms has climbed to 5,525 across 10 regions, following monsoon rains intensified by tropical cyclones. According to the DepEd Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service (DRRMS) situational report, the number of damaged classrooms increased from the previously reported 3,924 on Monday. Of the damaged classrooms, 3,297 were classified as minorly damaged, 1,135 as majorly damaged, and 1,093 as totally damaged. “We are also assessing the damaged school infrastructure, focusing on slope protection to ensure campus safety,” it added. “The DepEd DRRMS initiated the processing of the 1st batch of CUCO and MR funds for the repair of damaged classrooms and cleaning and clearing operations to support learning continuity,” the agency said.
