In Japan, the summer heat can be sweltering, intense, or even downright cruel.
So the trick is to find someplace cool and relaxing, but not quite so touristy, and that brings us to the Enbaragawa River in the mountains of Gifu Prefecture.
Enbaragawa isn’t exactly a “hidden gem,” as it attracts visitors from outside Gifu too.
Enbaragawa is a subsurface-flow river, meaning that for a portion of the waterway, the water flows underground.
Head south along the road until you get to the point marked here……and you’ll see the Enbara River Steel Bridge.
