Future-proofing the Maui gas pipeline in New Zealand

Image: First GasInductabend demonstrated its technical agility by delivering custom, heavy-walled bending solutions for a gas transmission pipeline repair project in New Zealand.
Constructed in the mid-to-late 1970s, the DN750 Maui natural gas transmission pipeline serves as the primary energy highway transporting natural gas from the Taranaki region to the high-demand centres of Auckland and Northland.
“To form these bends, we modified and reinforced our existing in-house designed and built long-radius machine,” Inductabend Manager Nathan Crouch said.
The result is a transition-free induction bend with more uniform material properties, improved structural performance and greater integrity for demanding pipeline applications.
With the new induction bend selected and integrated into the network, the Maui pipeline is well-positioned to quietly and reliably fuel the North Island for another half-century.
