Bronx shelter offers a fresh start for formerly incarcerated New Yorkers

The graduates are all residents of the Fulton Community Reentry Center in the Bronx, a first-of-its-kind shelter that provides 140 beds to formerly incarcerated men over the age of 40.
The seven-story building was formerly a prison, reinvented as a shelter designed to offer a fresh start.
It’s something Erin Dalton, the Commissioner of the Department of Social Services, said the city plans to start doing more of.“
More commonly, people who don’t have friends or family to return to after leaving prison wind up in New York City’s Department of Homeless Services shelter system.
Neha Sharma, a spokesperson for the city Department of Social Services, agreed that such programs are vital.
