BLOOMBERG: Corporate Boards’ DEI Rules Almost Entirely Eliminated

Citing data from an analysis of diversity, equity and inclusion trends, Bloomberg reported this morning that corporate boards have almost entirely removed such criteria for selecting new directors.
Boards should still seek out Black and female candidates, he said, but without explicit criteria or pay incentives that could lead one group to receive less consideration than another.
The companies agreed to eliminate those terms.
Last year NLPC presented several shareholder proposals that called upon American Express, Coca-Cola, General Motors, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, Mastercard, McDonald’s, Merck, and PepsiCo to remove DEI incentives from their executive compensation formulas.
While most of those proposals went to a vote at the companies’ annual meetings and were defeated, many companies jettisoned the incentives anyway.
