THE Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) has found Ateneo de Manila University and its former men’s basketball coach Thomas Anthony “Tab” Baldwin administratively liable for work permit violations, imposing a combined P4.9-million fine.
In an order promulgated on Tuesday, DoLE found Mr. Baldwin liable for working without a valid Alien Employment Permit (AEP) during his Ateneo employment from Dec. 1, 2015 to Sept. 28, 2016.
DoLE also found Mr. Baldwin liable for failing to secure a required Certificate of Exemption under Department Order No.
DoLE said its inquiry into Mr. Baldwin’s authority to work followed the drowning incident involving the Ateneo men’s basketball team in Aurora.
Counsels for Mr. Baldwin and Ateneo said they would avail themselves of remedies under applicable laws, DoLE said.
