Six of Saturn's largest moons appear alongside the ringed planet in a striking new NASA Astronomy Picture of the Day released on Aug. 11, 2026. NASA says Saturn had 293 confirmed moons as of June 2026, giving the planet the largest known moon population in the solar system. The six moons in the NASA image therefore represent only a tiny fraction of Saturn's known satellite system. The Hubble Space Telescope's earlier composite image of Saturn also captured six moons, although it featured a different combination: Dione, Enceladus, Tethys, Janus, Epimetheus and Mimas. That image was assembled from multiple exposures because the moons moved while Saturn was being photographed.
