Sid Motion Gallery, the South London dealership that has spent the past decade building a programme supporting emerging and mid-career artists, is to close this autumn, with its founder saying she has chosen to wind up the business while the programme and finances are still intact. “My heart is full when I think of the conversations and connections that the gallery has facilitated over the years,” says Sid Motion, who founded the business in 2016. We are stopping while we are ahead, while my artists are properly serviced and the quality of the programme remains high.” Motion opened the gallery the following year, initially without knowing whether sales from one exhibition would be enough to finance the next. In the meantime, Motion says she intends to remain closely involved with the artists she has represented.
