In a recent statement, the governorate announced that the District Planning and Building Committee of the Israeli authorities has submitted a proposal for the “Nofei Rachel” settlement. This proposed development would span approximately 27 dunams (6.7 acres) and would be situated adjacent to Palestinian residences. The governorate issued a warning that the project’s impact would transcend the scope of the planned housing units, stating that its location would have a direct effect on the daily lives of Palestinians residing in the area. The Israeli rights organization Ir Amim reported on Monday that Israeli authorities have recently progressed three significant settlement plans, proposing over 3,400 housing units in East Jerusalem. The United Nations, along with the majority of countries worldwide, regard the Israeli settlements established on occupied Palestinian territories as illegal under international law, stating that they hinder chances for achieving a two-state solution.
