— Prime Minister Gaston Browne is calling for cleaner, more attractive vending areas during Antigua Carnival, criticizing the continued use of wooden pallets to construct temporary bars and stalls.
Browne raised the issue during his weekly radio programme after a vendor complained that the widespread use of pallets diminished the appearance of vending areas in St. John’s.
“I hate to see those pallets,” Browne said, suggesting that vendors could use affordable pop-up tents instead.
While Browne described the recently concluded Carnival as productive and successful, he said improvements were needed in the presentation of vending spaces.
The comments signal that vending standards and the appearance of St. John’s could receive increased attention as organizers prepare for next year’s milestone celebration.
