The Perseid meteor shower is visible over Germany and the northern hemisphere from mid-July to late-August each year and peaks on the night of August 12th and 13th. Meteors are chunks of rock often left behind by larger comets, and shooting stars - known to astronomers as meteorites - are meteors that enter earth's atmosphere. In much of Germany, weather conditions are in stargazers' favour: according to the German Weather Service (DWD), a high pressure system on Wednesday night into Thursday means that most of Germany is set to have clear, cloudless skies -- with the exception of far northern regions, where some clouds are expected.
