De la Espriella is scheduled to travel this afternoon to Quibdó, the capital of the Chocó department, where the earthquake’s epicenter was located, to personally oversee the emergency response. Meanwhile, other members of his cabinet will travel to the Valle del Cauca department and the Coffee Region, the areas hardest hit by the earthquake. The earthquake, measured at magnitude 7.4 by the Colombian Geological Service (SGC), struck at 7:34 a.m. local time (12:34 GMT).
