Guntur: District collector CM Sai Kanth Varma urged the farmers to turn El Nino crisis and challenges into opportunities. He advised the farmers to shift towards nature farming and cultivate alternative crops instead of paddy and enrol in the crop insurance scheme. He said that anticipated reduction in rainfall due to El Nino calls for change in agricultural practices. He further said that nature farming helps to conserve soil fertility and reduces cultivation costs and enables the farmers to achieve long term sustainability. He urged the farmers not to depend on traditional paddy cultivation under low rainfall conditions.
