This past Monday, several businesses in Central Havana were forced to close after they refused to accept electronic payment transfers. The municipal office of ONAT in Central Havana executed this measure, issuing a stern warning to other businesses. According to the state agency, willfully refusing to accept electronic transfers is considered a tax evasion offense, violating current tax laws and infringing on consumers' rights to choose their preferred payment methods. A similar closure occurred the previous Friday when the ONAT shut down a business located on Neptuno Street, between Aramburu and Soledad, in Central Havana. Despite advancing this campaign, challenges persist due to connectivity issues and difficulties voiced by merchants who require cash for operations, as many suppliers also refuse electronic transfers.
