Ten drivers have been arrested for allegedly taking part in illegal street races on a Hong Kong highway, with police deploying drones and unmarked high-performance vehicles to capture the suspects’ activities and apprehend them.
“Some arrested drivers drove at extreme speeds, weaving in and out of traffic recklessly,” said Pun Chun-ho, a senior inspector in police’s Traffic Kowloon East enforcement and control division.
During the operation, code-named “Fastshield”, seven private cars and three motorcycles were impounded for further examination.
Pun said the force had deployed drones and unmarked police cars or “stealth cars” to film the illegal racing and intercept the suspects’ vehicles.
“By leveraging the drones’ high flexibility and wide coverage, we conducted aerial observation and command,” he said.
