Drake’s Legal Team Secures Royalty Rights for Belfon After 28-Year Dispute Over ‘Work’ Sample

Trinidadian soca artist Denise Belfon will get royalties from her 1998 hit "Work" for the first time in almost three decades.
Drake's legal team pushed producer Pupa Nas-T to agree to proper payment.
"Because of Drake's team, the producer of 'Work' was forced to say 'yes,'" Belfon told Billboard.
A Masters at Work remix in 2000 turned the soca anthem into a house track.
A source close to the dispute told Billboard that the OVO team fought to clear the sample with consent from all interested parties, including Belfon.
