Rose recorded the album with producer John Congleton, known for his work with artists including St. Vincent, Explosions in the Sky, Sharon Van Etten and Angel Olsen. “I relate to characters who are a little strange, who are outsiders, who seem to fuck up a lot or find themselves in awkward situations,” Rose said. Gentling The Horse At The Walt Whitman Mall also continues Rose’s interest in using music to examine the systems surrounding everyday life.
