UIHC supports new law banning non-competes for doctors
[]
The Mighty 1630 KCJJ
Hunter08/11/26University of Iowa Health Care Vice President for Medical Affairs Denise Jamieson says they support a new law banning them from making doctors sign non-compete agreements upon hire.
The non-competes prevented physicians from practicing within a 20 to 50 mile radius for two years after leaving, or soliciting UIHC employees or patients to go to a competing hospital or clinic.
The law, passed this year, only applies to the University of Iowa and is not retroactive.
It bars the facility from asking doctors, physician assistants, pharmacists and nurses to sign non-competes, although Jamieson said the UIHC only asked doctors to sign the agreements.
The Iowa Board of Regents followed suit and updated their policies to enact the ban.
