NEWTON, IOWA — For Sammy Smith, the Hy-Vee Perks 250 at Iowa Speedway meant more than an average race. 8 Pilot Chevrolet for the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series event was wrapped with a tribute design to Annett’s 2017 paint scheme. Annett, who was born in Des Moines, Iowa, was a staple of the O’Reilly Series for over a decade. Smith joined JR Motorsports in 2024 and often represents the Pilot Flying J colors that were a common sight on Annett’s rides. The O’Reilly Series will return to action under the lights at Daytona International Speedway for the Winn-Dixie 250 on Aug. 28.
