PLYMOUTH – As budget season gets into full swing, the Marshall County Council heard first reading of an ordinance that would continue the “special LIT” (Local Income Tax) that was initiated to pay for the construction of the county jail. That was President of the Council Tim Harmon who went on to outline for the Council the numbers should the county allow the tax to expire when jail bonds are paid of in the coming year, stating a $1.5 million surplus at the end of the current budget year would be greatly different. The Council voted to schedule a public hearing on the ordinance during second reading at their meeting on Sept. 14. The Council heard first reading of this year’s county budget Monday afternoon, and second reading will also be part of that meeting.
