Distinguished Professor Ali Riaz was interviewed by Channel News Asia (CNA) of Singapore and was quoted in an article published by NPR, both covering the press conference of Bangladesh’s deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held in New Delhi on 5 August. Riaz held the University Professor​​ designation between 2012 and 2018 and was the Chair of the Department of Politics between 2007 and 2017. In the NPR report, Riaz is quoted as saying her return would trigger immediate legal action. In the press conference Hasina joined virtually and addressed in audio only. Bangladesh government has repeatedly asked India to extradite Hasina, while Hasina said that she would return in December.
