Trainer Wesley Ward went to $2.3 million for a Gun Runner colt Monday night at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale. The chestnut, consigned as Hip 78 by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent CXV, is out of the Tapit mare Shook Up. Already the dam of Texas Derby winner and GIII Oklahoma Derby runner-up King Ottoman (Curlin), Shook Up was second in the 2015 GI Kentucky Oaks and GII Fair Grounds Oaks. The $2.3-million colt was bred in Kentucky by Three Chimneys Farm, where Gun Runner stands. Gun Runner's Grade I winner Society is bred on the identical cross as Hip 78.
