Renowned New Orleans-based funk-blues pianist and vocalist John “Papa” Gros will release his new album, GIANTS, on Friday, August 21, 2026, via Funky Krewe Records. “John ‘Papa’ Gros is steeped in New Orleans music tradition, standing at the intersection of funk, R&B, soul and Americana music.” John “Papa” Gros is a New Orleans pianist, organist, and singer-songwriter whose career reflects the city itself—resilient, rhythmic, steeped in tradition, and always evolving. In 2000, Gros formed Papa Grows Funk, a band that would become synonymous with modern New Orleans funk. After Papa Grows Funk ended its run, Gros returned to sideman work, contributing to high-profile tributes honoring Dr. John and the Neville Brothers.
