Knox County Sheriff Daniel J. Weckesser and the Knox County Sheriff’s Office have decided not to pursue funding or implement Flock cameras in Knox County after reviewing the technology and community feedback. The decision follows an evaluation of how Flock cameras would be used in the county, along with the factors involved in deploying and maintaining the system. The Sheriff’s Office acknowledged that Flock systems can provide vehicle information to investigators and assist with identifying suspects, locating stolen vehicles, finding missing people and solving crimes. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said it remains committed to “utilizing effective investigative tools” while serving the community with transparency and responsibility and maintaining partnerships with residents. The office also said it will continue evaluating technologies and opportunities that enhance public safety while reflecting the needs and values of Knox County.
