Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested five people, including the prime suspect, in connection with the attempted murder of BNP activist Alamgir Hossain in Pallabi. The arrestees are Md Rubel alias Langra Rubel, the prime suspect; Bappa alias Shakil; Hamidur alias Makhon; Parvez; and Rabbi. They were arrested during separate drives in Savar, Gazipur and Kushtia yesterday, said Mohammad Rakib Khan, deputy commissioner of DB's Mirpur Division. Following the incident, Alamgir's wife filed a case with Pallabi Police Station, naming Rubel as the prime suspect. As Alamgir resisted, Bappa allegedly struck him on the head and later fired at him, the DB official said.
