Police arrested two men today in connection with the alleged rape of a 60-year-old visually impaired woman after she was abducted from Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital early this morning. Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mahmud Hasan said the victim’s son filed a case against the two men on Tuesday afternoon. According to the case statement, the woman is blind in one eye and has partial vision in the other. Police said a patient in a neighbouring bed saw Belal and Nasir take the woman away and later corroborated her account. Dr Masum Iftekhar, superintendent of Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital, said the woman was not an admitted patient of the hospital but had been staying in the gynaecology ward as the beds were vacant.
