The Senate has confirmed Glen Smith to be undersecretary for rural development, filling a position that has been vacant since January 2025. Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig called Smith's confirmation "great news for rural Iowa and rural America. Smith, he said, "understands that strong rural communities are essential to a strong agricultural economy. I look forward to working with him to keep rural Iowa growing.” Also at that hearing, Smith discussed a topic now very much in the news – cyberattacks on U.S. water supplies.
