Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) officials have announced that the agency is advancing Phase 2 of runway safety at Boston Logan International Airport. Crews are working to install an Engineered Material Arresting System (EMAS) at the end of Runway 27 to extend the airport's safety network. Additionally, travelers could experience delays in the event of severe weather, air traffic constraints, and other airport operations disruptions. The work on this project will not span the entire runway length. The EMAS consists of lightweight, crushable materials aimed at allowing aircraft that overshoot the runway to come to a safe stop.
