SIKESTON — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, said three Mexican nationals were transferred into its custody after local law enforcement partners encountered them during the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo, held Aug. 5-8. All three remained in ICE custody Monday pending removal proceedings and will receive full due process under federal law, the agency said. ICE did not immediately explain the discrepancy or say whether a fourth person was released, transferred or was not in ICE custody. “Being in detention is a choice,” ICE Public Affairs Midwest said in its statement. ICE referred people to the CBP Home App, a federal mobile app the administration has promoted for voluntary departure.
