The Resolution Foundation has published a fresh report, urging Labour Party Prime Minister Mr Burnham to extend his measures addressing the cost of living crisis, reports Birmingham Live.
It continues: "As of early August, wholesale gas prices have surged back to around the highest levels since fighting began.
The foundation argues: "When prices spiked in 2022, ministers fell back on universal support, at a cost of £44 billion.
Automatic enrolment through HMRC data should be the ultimate goal; for this winter, self-declaration with subsequent HMRC verification represents an imperfect yet achievable solution.
