Massachusetts continues to earn high marks for quality of life, landing in fourth place nationwide in WalletHub's 2026 ranking of the Best States to Live In. The personal finance website compared all 50 states across 51 indicators that measure livability, including housing costs, income growth, health care access, education, safety and economic opportunity. Massachusetts' strong showing was driven largely by its health care and quality-of-life metrics. WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo said people considering a move should look beyond purely financial factors when evaluating where to live. While Massachusetts ranked among the nation's best overall, Idaho claimed the top spot in WalletHub's 2026 rankings.
