Kathy Hochul announced Monday that the state would invest nearly $10 million to help build a cardiac catheterization lab (cath lab) at Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx. A cath lab can mean the difference in surviving cardiac medical emergencies such as a heart attack, the governor said. Torres emphasized that a cath lab was needed, specifically at Lincoln Hospital, due to the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in the area. “Lincoln is the safety net hospital of the South Bronx,” Torres said. Gibson’s office also committed $2 million dollars to fund the specialized cardiac cath lab.
