At least 132 people have died after a powerful earthquake struck Colombia, with hundreds more injured and fears growing that people remain trapped beneath collapsed buildings. The 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck at 7:34am local time at a depth of around 103km beneath Choco province, according to Colombia’s geological service. The tremor was felt across a huge stretch of western Colombia, affecting cities and communities hundreds of kilometres from the epicentre. Colombia’s authorities have declared a national disaster situation as emergency teams continue assessing the destruction, as CNN reported. The death toll is expected to rise as emergency crews reach damaged buildings and search for those who may still be trapped.
