Law enforcement agencies across Nevada, including the North Las Vegas Police Department and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, launched a coordinated distracted driving campaign Aug. 7 that will run through Aug. 31.
"Every time a driver takes their attention away from the road, they are putting themselves, their passengers, and everyone around them at risk," the North Las Vegas Police Department stated.
“Every time you choose to get behind the wheel, lives are in your hands,” representatives with the Zero Fatalities Nevada program said in a statement.
The Nevada Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety is funding the added patrols through federal grants.
The campaign's stated goal is reducing Nevada traffic deaths to zero, and additional safety resources are available through the Zero Fatalities Nevada program.
