While Massachusetts welcomed July's rainfall, the state is not out of the woods yet when it comes to drought. Much of Eastern Massachusetts also saw improvements after a very wet July helped bring much-needed rainfall across the state. According to a Boston Globe report, Massachusetts received between 4.5 and nearly 9.5 inches of rain in July. The most substantial long-term deficits exist across eastern Massachusetts, with Nantucket among those areas that have officials concerned. Nantucket has a year-to-date precipitation deficit of nearly 14 inches — a substantial decrease from normal precipitation levels.
