Boston gyms are seeing a strong rebound in memberships as COVID-19 pandemic concerns wane and return-to-office trends pick up. Geoffrey Janey, founder and owner of JET Boston-Brooklyn, told The Boston Globe that some of his young gym-goers are mixing expensive lifestyle choices like high-end workouts with weekend nights out in the city. Gen Z is quickly becoming a larger share of Boston gym-goers. Meanwhile, Gen Z's spending growth for gyms more than doubles the amount of spending on alcohol. Major chains like Planet Fitness report solid membership growth and revenue, while premium brands maintain higher pricing and curated experiences.
