PIKETON, Ohio — Centrus Energy Corp. has signed a contract to supply enriched uranium fuel to nuclear technology company X-energy, with production planned at Centrus’ American Centrifuge Plant in Pike County, according to a news release from Centrus.
The deal, signed Aug. 6, calls for Centrus to provide X-energy with low-enriched uranium and high-assay, low-enriched uranium, known as HALEU, to support X-energy’s Xe-100 small modular reactors and TRISO-X fuel production, the release said.
As part of the agreement, X-energy will make prepayments to Centrus to help fund the company’s buildout of domestic enrichment capacity.
“Our work in Piketon and Oak Ridge is strengthening a U.S.-based nuclear fuel supply chain and is removing enrichment as a point of concern for the advanced reactor community.”
X-energy has previously announced commercial relationships with Dow Inc., Amazon and Centrica to support deployment of its advanced nuclear reactor technology, the release said.
