Mineola will come together to celebrate its community on Friday, Sept. 4, and to learn more about the village’s historical roots.
The area was colonized by the Dutch East India Company in 1609, and by the 18th century, Dutch and English settlers began clearing the land to build new lives, according to the Mineola Historical Society.
In 1899, after the western portion of Queens became part of New York City, Mineola became the county seat for Nassau County.
After the 120th celebration, Balalaos said the chamber will hold the village’s street fair that will lead into more events in the fall.
“The fun part about it is when you’re hanging out in the street,” Balalaos said.
