The summer after he graduated from Seaside High School, Jim Gallegos went to work as a cement finisher on the Astoria Bridge. When he visits, he drives up to the Astoria Column and watches as ships travel under the bridge he helped build five decades ago. But, he said that doesn’t mean the Clatsop County Fair Board ignores the complaints. The Spokane naval air reserve unit, completing two weeks of training at the Clatsop County airport, leaves for its home base Saturday.
