Leyton tube station’s new ticket office and step-free access works are progressing, and the new footbridge should be lifted into place in a couple of weeks time. At the moment, Leyton station’s entrance is little more than a shed above tracks, a type of tube station in need of refurbishment, but it is also overcrowded during the rush hours. The upgrade is building an entirely new ticket hall next to the old one, along with two lifts down to the platforms, wider staircases and a new footbridge. The first steelwork went in a few months ago, and now the structure of the ticket hall is evident, as are the raised steelwork for the new footbridge and lifts. When it opens, the new ticket hall will be over three times the size of the old one, with eight passenger gates, compared to the existing five gates.
