Linux Mint has announced an overhaul in its kernel management, and will now automatically delete old kernels once a week. Updates for tracked series kernels will appear in Update Manager as before, but in a marked change, your older, unused kernel versions will be removed automatically, once a week. Expanded kernel management options(Image: Linux Mint / OMG! On one of my Linux Mint 22.3 installs, I have 4 different kernels listed (see photo above) along with their respective recovery modes. It’s not clear from Mint’s blog post if these changes will come to existing Linux Mint 22.3 and LMDE users as a software update, or if it’s a change arriving in Linux Mint 23 ‘Alfa’ (codename temporary), which is due for release at the end of the year.
