UNC Charlotte's Central Campus will create a pedestrian-only zone, with no wheeled devices allowed. This new rule, effective in the fall of 2026, will prohibit all wheeled devices, including scooters, bicycles (both manual and electric), skateboards, hoverboards, Segways, roller skates, and similar devices in designated areas. The campus is putting these new rules forth due to growing concerns about safety for pedestrians walking to Central Campus, according to Inside UNC Charlotte. The wheels-free boundary area encompasses quads, sidewalks, and pathways around Craver Road, Mary Alexander Road, University Road, Cameron Boulevard, and Popp Martin Student Union. Students living on campus must check with housing officials for rules on storing wheeled devices inside the building.
